Boys/Girls like Boys/Girls

When someone says “Who do you like?” they don’t mean black or white, or tall or short, or what occupation they have, they mean boys or girls. Now, please tell me, who do you like? That’s the question you’re asked once born. It’s not even a question. It’s more of a command, saying if you’re female you must like men and if you’re male you must like women. This is to such an extent that whenever a kid (a guy) is asked about a love interest they say, without much thought, “So… who is she?” But people are so, so, very different. Different from each other, different in what they like. Boys can like boys and girls can like girls. But why? They say. But why do you like boys? Probably the same reasons as most girls do: they’re cool. Same for liking girls. And in some cases, why not both? Both are good. Both are great! But some people don’t think so. Some people would rather freak out at the sight of a shade of pink on a “boys” toy. Or a G.I. Joe character in a girl’s hand. And what’s with that thing where parents don’t like their daughter going out with guys? Not even in a romantic way. Just to the mall. Truly, just as friends. I remember so many times when I’ve needed to haphazardly convince a female friend’s mom or dad to let her go to the mall with me, or even just talk on the phone. Or whenever I was over at her house (even if there were more friends there) the dad would always keep watch over us. It’s strange. That’s what it is. It is strange that even today, in our modern world, we still deal with these problems of the past. Strangely, it’s even an issue to begin with. It’s strange to know people think mixing the two sexes would be an issue. Where did this even come from? Pink was originally invented for men. High heels too, for soldiers, at that! It’s wrong that for a boy and a girl to meet and laugh and cry and simply be near each other, it takes a village. And, might I add, when these two do meet up, everyone immediately assumes one has an interest in the other and no way in hell could a boy and a girl ever be friends. Because why would a boy ever want to be friends with a girl without wanting something more?
