New Roads Fits, the once widely popular TikTok account, is now mostly unknown. What caused this drastic change? And is there a future in which the account is returned to its former glory?

“Inclusive,” says Arden Bevilacqua.

“Espressive,” says Zoya Ahmad.

“Creative,” says Remy Myer.

“Actual representation of the Jags,” says Madison Yvonne McMorrin-Watson.

These are the words that come to mind when New Roads students think about the New Roads Fits TikTok account.

New Roads Fits was created in 2021 by Nandi Young. Nandi wanted to make the account a place where she was able to show the individuality between the students at New Roads.  In 2023, Nandi graduated and passed the baton to Princess West (26’) and Mimi Nikolic (26’). Nikolic said, “New Roads Fits was a key component in coming here.” For students, New Roads Fits is more than a TikTok account; it was a place of love. On this account, you were able to show love to your friends and build new connections.

West and Nikolic were extremely excited to begin the senior year as the owners of the famous TikTok account. Yet, there haven't been any new videos posted to the New Roads Fits page since May 1 2025.

The account didn't suddenly stop posting; they were unable to continue creating content for the page because of the phone ban. Starting this year, New Roads has implemented a new phone policy that banned the use of cellphones on campus during school hours. A challenge that students have faced as a result is that the policy can sometimes media projects at New Roads, since  students are not only not allowed to record or take pictures throughout the day.

This may seem like an unimportant account to adults, but for Nikolic and West, this account was a way of keeping a tradition alive and leaving a legacy behind before leaving for college. This account promoted free expression and showed the individuality between the students. Without this account, New Roads loses an important method of connection between students.

Unfortunately the decision that has been made goes against the thoughts of senior Lucy Dehnert, who stated “Students who are a part of media need phones and it’s worth it to allow them to have them.” Caroline Foos, Dean of Students at New Roads, believes the idea of allowing media for some students is a good idea, but she also believes that allowing certain students access to their phone and not everyone else creates a divide between students. She believes the final solution shouldn’t leave anyone out.

These solutions though not agreed with have brought up a question. How does the media keep creating content without going against the phone policy? Foos believes that if the student media teams want to create content throughout school hours they would have to collaborate with Callista the media manager. By collaborating with Callista the media teams are able to make their account more connected with new roads and to make sure it's more inclusive.
